Is the Bible Reliable & Can I Know God Personally?

In our 6th message in the “Exploring God” series, Pastor Hurmon addresses two more of Life’s BIG Questions, “Is the Bible reliable?” and “Can I know God personally?” In order to answer this question, we first have to answer the question “can God know us personally?” Scripture is how we learn about the character of God, and by studying and following the commands written in scripture, we come into relationship with Him.

When we ask about the reliability of the Bible, we have to think about its use. Although the Bible contains history, stories, censuses, and many other facts and figures, its Bible’s primary purpose is as a theological text. That is, its purpose is to make accessible the nature of God, and to critique human nature.

Finally, we are left with 5 important truths about the Bible to contextualize it. 1. The Bible is God-breathed. 2. Every part of scripture is useful for the purposes of God. 3. Scripture reveals what’s true and trustworthy. 4. Scripture reveals what is wrong in our lives and teaches us to do what is right. 5. Scripture prepares us for the work of God and equips us with the hope of God.
